POS Plaza stocks direct thermal freight and shipping labels in the sizes, core options, and quantities used by Australian e-commerce businesses, 3PLs, and warehouse operations. The standard Australian shipping label is 100mm x 150mm (A6 size) — compatible with Australia Post eParcel and MyPost Business, CouriersPlease, Sendle, Aramex, StarTrack, Fastway, and all major Australian freight carriers. Labels are available in rolls of 250 to 1,000 labels, with bulk carton options for high-volume operations. Prices from $15 per roll inc GST, with same-day dispatch from our Sydney warehouse.

Our most popular shipping label is the 100mm x 150mm Direct Thermal Labels — 400 per Roll, 25mm Core (SKU: LA100150TP1AC25MM) at $15.00 inc GST per roll. No ribbon required. Permanent adhesive. 50+ in stock for immediate dispatch.

What is the standard Australian shipping label size?

100mm x 150mm (A6) is the standard shipping label size used across Australia. Every major Australian carrier platform — Australia Post eParcel, MyPost Business, CouriersPlease, Sendle, Aramex, StarTrack, DHL Express Australia, and TNT — generates labels in this format. Most shipping integrations built into Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, StarShipIt, Shippit, and ShipStation default to 100x150mm output. If you are unsure what size to order, 100x150mm is the correct choice for the vast majority of Australian parcel dispatch operations.

A smaller variant, 100mm x 100mm, is used for some document and flat parcel applications. The 62mm x 100mm format is used with Brother QL and TD-series label printers for smaller parcel labels and name badges.

Which printers use these shipping labels?

Freight and shipping labels are direct thermal — no ribbon required. They are compatible with all direct thermal label printers. The most commonly used printers for shipping label printing in Australia are:

  • Zebra GK420d / ZD230 / ZD420 — Desktop direct thermal printers, standard in e-commerce and 3PL environments. Use 25mm or 76mm core rolls depending on the model.
  • Zebra ZT230 / ZT411 — Industrial label printers for high-volume dispatch operations. Use 76mm core rolls.
  • Brother TD-4520DN / TD-4550DNWB — Desktop label printers supporting 100x150mm rolls. 25mm core.
  • Dymo LabelWriter 4XL / 5XL — Popular for low-to-medium volume shipping. Use Dymo-compatible 100x150mm rolls with 25mm core.
  • TSC DA210 / DA310 — Cost-effective direct thermal printers for small-to-medium dispatch volumes. 25mm core.

If you need a label printer to go with your labels, see our Direct Thermal Label Printers range.

Core size — 25mm, 40mm, or 76mm?

The core size is the internal diameter of the label roll — it must match your printer's media spindle. The two most common sizes for shipping labels are:

  • 25mm core — Used by most desktop label printers including the Zebra GK420d, ZD230, Brother TD series, Dymo 4XL/5XL, and TSC desktop models. Rolls typically contain 250–500 labels.
  • 40mm core — Used by some mid-range printers. Rolls typically contain 350 labels. Less common than 25mm or 76mm.
  • 76mm core — Used by industrial label printers including the Zebra ZT series and TSC MH/MX series. Larger roll diameter means more labels per roll (typically 1,000+), reducing changeover frequency in high-volume operations.

If you are unsure which core size your printer takes, check the printer's media specifications or the printer manual. Ordering the wrong core size means the roll will not fit the printer's media spindle.

Labels per roll — how many do you need?

Shipping label rolls are available in several counts. The right quantity depends on your daily dispatch volume and how often you want to change rolls:

  • 250–350 labels per roll — Suited to low-to-medium volume operations dispatching up to 50–100 parcels per day. Compact roll size, fits most desktop printers.
  • 400–500 labels per roll — Good balance of roll life and roll size for medium-volume dispatch. Popular for growing e-commerce businesses.
  • 1,000 labels per roll (76mm core) — For high-volume operations where minimising roll changeover time matters. Requires an industrial printer with a 76mm core spindle.
  • Bulk carton (case of rolls) — For operations dispatching hundreds of parcels per day. Carton pricing reduces the cost per label significantly. Contact us for carton pricing.

Permanent vs removable adhesive

Permanent adhesive labels are the standard for freight and shipping — they bond firmly to boxes, satchels, and padded mailers and are not intended to be removed. This is the correct choice for outbound shipments.

Removable adhesive labels are available for applications where labels need to be repositioned or cleanly removed — for example, returns labels placed inside a parcel that the recipient applies to the outside, or temporary warehouse labels applied to packaging before a final shipping label is added.

Orange shipping labels — what are they used for?

Orange direct thermal shipping labels (100x150mm) are used to visually differentiate certain parcel types in a dispatch operation. Common uses include priority or express shipments requiring visual identification at the carrier depot, fragile or special handling parcels, temperature-sensitive goods, or internal warehouse routing where certain orders must be picked and packed separately from standard fulfilment. Orange labels print the same barcode and shipping data as white labels — they are colour-coded for operational workflow reasons, not carrier requirements.

Frequently asked questions — freight & shipping labels

Q: What size shipping labels does Australia Post use?
A: Australia Post eParcel and MyPost Business both generate 100mm x 150mm (A6) shipping labels. This is the standard size for all Australia Post lodgement channels — including Click & Send, MyPost Business, eParcel, and Shopify/WooCommerce integrations using the Australia Post shipping plugin. Order 100x150mm direct thermal labels for all Australia Post parcel dispatch.

Q: Are these labels compatible with Sendle, CouriersPlease, and Aramex?
A: Yes. All major Australian courier platforms — Sendle, CouriersPlease, Aramex, StarTrack, DHL Express, TNT, and Fastway — generate 100x150mm shipping labels. The 100x150mm direct thermal label is compatible with every Australian carrier that generates its own label through an online booking platform.

Q: Do I need a special printer to print shipping labels?
A: Any direct thermal label printer that accepts 100mm wide media can print shipping labels. A standard desktop printer like the Zebra GK420d, ZD230, or Dymo LabelWriter 4XL is sufficient for most e-commerce operations. You do not need an inkjet or laser printer — direct thermal label printers print without ink or toner. If you are printing high volumes (hundreds of labels per day), consider a higher-throughput model like the Zebra ZD421 or a 76mm core industrial printer.

Q: What is the difference between 25mm and 76mm core shipping labels?
A: The core size is the inner diameter of the label roll. 25mm core rolls fit most desktop label printers (Zebra GK420d, ZD230, Brother TD series, Dymo 4XL). 76mm core rolls fit industrial printers (Zebra ZT series, TSC MH/MX series) and hold significantly more labels per roll — typically 1,000 vs 250–500. If you have a desktop printer, order 25mm core. If you have an industrial printer or are unsure, check your printer's media guide.

Q: Can I use these labels with StarShipIt, Shippit, or ShipStation?
A: Yes. StarShipIt, Shippit, ShipStation, Easyship, and all major Australian multi-carrier shipping platforms generate 100x150mm labels compatible with direct thermal label printers. Connect your printer to your computer via USB or network, configure the label size in your shipping software to 100x150mm, and print directly from the dispatch platform. No special label stock is required beyond standard 100x150mm direct thermal labels.

Q: Do you sell shipping labels in bulk cartons?
A: Yes. Bulk carton options are available for high-volume shipping operations. Carton pricing reduces the cost per label significantly for operations dispatching hundreds of parcels per day. Contact us on 1300 115 808 or email sales@posplaza.com.au for carton pricing and volume discounts.
